Real Estate stats generated in February 2010 to February 2010 comparison for Calvert County have changed, with the median sold price decreased by 14.2% from last year at this time. Average days on the market have slightly increased to 201 days in 2010 from 135 days in February 2009. The number of closed sales for February 2010 is 40 compared to 52 for February 2009, down 23%.


Location Characteristics: Calvert County, the smallest county in Southern Maryland, is one of the fastest growing counties in the State. Calvert County retains its rural character and agrarian roots, offering good schools, a clean environment and good quality of life. Calvert is a peninsula, bounded by the Chesapeake Bay on the east and the Patuxent River on the west. The County's many creeks provide refuge for wildlife as well as scenic areas for boating and fishing. Containing approximately 219 square miles, the County is nine miles wide at its widest point, and 35 miles from the Anne Arundel line to Solomons.  Prince Frederick, the County seat, is located 35 miles southeast of Washington, D.C., and 55 miles south of Baltimore. There are two incorporated towns in Calvert County: North Beach and Chesapeake Beach, located on the bay at the northeast corner of the county. In addition, the Comprehensive Plan identifies seven "town centers." These include (from north to south) Dunkirk, Owings, Huntingtown, Prince Frederick, St. Leonard, Lusby, and Solomons.  There are many good deals to be had in real estate at the present time.  What a time to buy!

 

With abundant waterways, unique shops and museums, excellent restaurants, natural parks and a calendar filled with interesting festivals and activities, Calvert County has earned its nickname "Charm of the Chesapeake." Tourism continues to be one of the leading components of Calvert County's economy. The Board of County Commissioners encourages tourism as an important component of its economic development program.
